Elimination diet: cod and copper capsules

Hello, Lando (a 1.5-year-old medium poodle) is about to start the elimination diet using saithe. However, I can’t find the copper tablets from Thorne anywhere. Is it okay to use a different brand here? If so, which one?

  • Hello again and thanks for your reply last time. We’ve run out of Avital Calcium. When I’d actually prepared a batch that was supposed to last 20 days, I was told by hundepappa.no that Aniforte Canine might have been infected with salmonella. So I had to throw the whole batch away. This means I only have enough calcium left for 5 days. Do you know of anywhere I can get hold of it? Or perhaps another calcium product I can use whilst we wait for online shops to restock? Kind regards, Katrine

  • Hello again! We were told to throw away the Aniforte BARF because salmonella had been found in it. He’s now been without it for about two weeks, and Lando has developed very loose stools. (I thought a replacement would arrive from Hundepappa quite quickly once we were notified of this.) But the item still hasn’t been sent. Is there anything else we can use in the meantime?

  • Hi! It’s fine to go without AniForte for a few weeks (dogs can easily go without supplements for 8 weeks). Fingers crossed it’ll be back soon! 🤞🏼 Regarding loose stools, I’d give a little pumpkin (cooked pumpkin, pumpkin purée, pumpkin powder) or psyllium husk.   • Hi Ayla, Lando has been to the vet and had a blood test. This showed elevated liver values of 800 ALTA. He will therefore be switching to Pro Plan HEPATIC. I’m a big fan of raw feeding and homemade food. He’s been doing well on a diet of saithe and sweet potato, but without wheat germ oil. Do you have any thoughts on what food I can give him once his liver values are back to normal? I suspect that copper may be a factor in the elevated liver ALTA levels.
