Life after bowel resection

Our story: Benny Bull pulled off a stunt 2.5 months ago by swallowing a rubber thingamajig. It got stuck in his intestine and surgery was the only option. This resulted in the removal of over a metre of small intestine. The removal of 1.2 metres of intestine causes some complications when it comes to nutrient absorption. Easily accessible nutrition. Our challenge: GAS After switching completely to dry food (pâté + dry food at the start), the gas started. In enormous quantities. Every day, several times an hour. A squeeze on the stomach and the air came out... it didn't smell like flowers, and it was simply unbearable. After four weeks of this nightmare, the launch of this forum popped up in my feed. After 20 minutes, rice, carrots and chicken were cooking. A little desperate 😅 and terrified of killing the dog with food other than what was recommended (put on the tip 😆) This mixed with dry food (50/50) clearly improved the gassing, but it was still present every day 💨🪟 Testing with Ari's/cod & chicken, the gassing is completely gone! • Hi, thank you so much for sharing! 💛 What a journey you've had. Unfortunately, what you describe with gas after intestinal surgery is not uncommon. Dry food can be too heavy and complex for many to break down, especially after such surgery (even if it is "easily digestible" on paper). It makes perfect sense that he responded so well to a simple, gentle cooked diet. Rice, carrots, chicken and cod provide easily accessible energy, are gentle on the intestines and ferment minimally in the colon – thus producing less gas.
