Transitioning your pet from dry food to homemade meals can be a straightforward process w…

Hi 🐶 I’m looking for some guidance on nutrition for my dog, Amilo (American Cocker Spaniel). He’s almost 11 years old. We’ve been members of Koda’s Kitchen for about 1.5 months, and he’s been on a transition journey for the past 5 weeks. The reason for the change is that I wanted to move from a dry-food-only diet to incorporating more home-cooked meals. He’s also had several ear infections over the past year, and I want to see if adjusting his diet can help. In addition, I want to support his joints as he’s getting older (he has torn both cruciate ligaments over the last year and is receiving PRP, laser and chiropractic treatment for it). I also want to improve his digestion (he has had a sensitive stomach and loose stools for most of his life), and ideally help him lose around 0.5 kg. He currently weighs 11 kg; he’s fairly slim, but could lose a little – due to his ligaments and age. He has been reacting really well to the homemade food so far 💚 No more licking his paws, less ear scratching, firmer stools, and his coat is noticeably shinier. This is a game-changer for us!! At the moment, he’s on a 50/50 transition between homemade food and dry food. His homemade meals consist of: Pollock Sweet potato Carrots Broccoli Dia Fiber (powder) Baddaky Omega-3 oil Probiotics (from Norsk Dyrehelse) Broth from white fish (from Monster) The dry food we are currently using is: Brit Care Dog Adult Hypoallergenic Weight Loss (Rabbit). We are about to run out of the dry food, and I would…

  • I forgot to mention that I also add eggs and hemp seeds to the food!
  • Hi Heidi! So lovely to hear that you’re already seeing such clear results! 💚 These are exactly the kind of changes we hope for, especially when it comes to itching, ears, tummy and coat. Well done! From what you describe, his diet looks well thought-out and excellent. You have a good foundation with easily digestible protein (eggs and white fish), mild carbohydrate sources and vegetables, as well as support from bone strength, omega-3 and probiotics. This is particularly beneficial for both skin/ears and digestion. As for Saga, thank you for your feedback! We are aware that she doesn’t always perform as well as we’d like yet, and we’re working on making her more precise and reliable. Regarding food you can try, I know many people have had good experiences with Yoggies: https://houseofdog…
  • Thank you, Ayla ❤️ I am incredibly grateful for the work you have done in setting up this platform and spreading information. I’ve always made excuses like “don’t have time, work too much, travel all the time, I’m vegan so yuck, etc.”, but after 4–5 weeks of homemade food, I’ve realised it’s not difficult at all. Thanks for the tip about buying a slow cooker – it makes cooking very easy. I buy 7 kg of ready-made food for Amilo, chop it up and put it in the pot before we go to bed, and hey presto – I wake up to ready-made food for several days. I’m promoting this platform in every forum 👍 Another fantastic side effect is that Amilo is full. For nearly 11 years, there’s been endless begging for food in every situation. Now he seems content and full—completely understandable after having ea…
  • Ohhh, that made me so happy! 😭❤️ Thank you for sharing, and it’s great to hear you find it manageable! It’s a really smart idea to use a slow cooker 😎 And so good to hear that Amilo is full and happy and enjoying his meal! 😍 Would it be OK if I shared a bit of your feedback on social media? And would you like to send a photo of Amilo too? 🐶
  • Of course! Feel free to share 🐶
  • Oh my goodness, how lovely!! 🥹
