Adjusting the recipe

Hi! I have a 6.5 kg dog who has previously struggled with UTIs, and before I discovered Evighetshunden, I was given a recipe for a urinary diet by another nutritionist. My dog loves meat, offal, eggs and vegetables (especially cooked carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and pumpkin) and he hates fish and rice, so I CAN’T use your urinary recipes (I’ve tried several times, but he refuses to eat it 😅). The dog loves this recipe, but I’m a bit unsure whether it’s completely balanced, and Saga asked me to post here in the forum so that you, Ayla, can help me optimise the recipe ❤️ Here it is: ● 400 g lamb with muscle meat, or minced meat ● 400 g pork with muscle meat or minced pork ● 2 eggs, whisked/cooked ● 50 g liver ● 125 g other offal (lungs, kidneys, heart, etc.) ● 200 g turnip (pureed in a blender or lightly cooked) ● 100 g Brussels sprouts (lightly cooked) ● 1 green banana ● 1 cooked carrot ● 5 g dried oregano or basil ● Blueberries, can be given fresh every day ● Cranberries, can be given fresh every day ● 75 g zinc/zinc gluconate (from health food shops) ● 5.5 g eggshell powder I give ⅛ tsp kelp a few times a week, as well as rosehip powder daily, 1 drop of vitamin D daily, and Dr Baddaky fish oil daily. As for zinc, I’d like to use the one you use in your recipes (Biolife zinc 14 mg). I’d also like to add that I’d like him to lose 200–300 grams in weight, as he should weigh around 6.2 kg. He is neutered. He goes for long walks, usually 8–10 km a day 😊 Looking forward to he…

  • By the way, can I rotate with other protein sources in this recipe? If so, which ones? And how should the calcium/zinc levels be adjusted then? 😊
  • Hi! 😊 Thank you for sharing this in such detail; it’s useful to have the background, what he likes, and what doesn’t work in practice. It also sounds like you know your dog very well, and that’s a big plus when trying to find a recipe that actually works over time! I’ve gone through the recipe, and it certainly looks like it’s been put together with good intentions, but I’ve found a few nutritional discrepancies that mean I wouldn’t use it exactly as it stands now, over time. Among other things, the calcium/phosphorus balance appears to be incorrect, the zinc level is too high, manganese is too low, vitamin E is too low, and there are also some other trace elements that seem to be slightly too low. As this is intended as a recipe for urinary tract health/UTIs to be used over time, and no…
  • That's absolutely brilliant, thank you so much! ❤️
