How We Dose Supplements for Your Dog
Two clear methods explain every supplement dose in our shop: a weight-bracket table for standalone supplements, and a recipe-dependent notice for nutrients whose dose comes from the recipe itself.
Why dosing matters
Supplements are powerful tools. The right amount supports your dog's health; the wrong amount can do nothing — or do harm. That is why every supplement product in our shop is paired with one of two clear dosing methods. This article explains how we calculate doses, where you see them, and what to do when the answer is "it depends on the recipe".
Method A — Weight-bracket dosing
**Used for:** products with a clear, standalone daily dose tied to body weight — most functional supplements (skin & coat oils, joint support, calming aids, probiotics, and similar). **How it works:** Our team enters a dose table directly on the product, with one row per weight bracket (for example *5–10 kg → ½ tsp*, *10–20 kg → 1 tsp*). The dog's current weight from their profile picks the correct row automatically. **Where you see it:** - On the product page, as a personalised line: "For Koda (12 kg): 1 tsp per day." - On our printed dosing label attached on the physical product you receive from us.
Method B — Recipe-dependent dosing
**Used for:** nutrient supplements whose correct dose depends on what is already in the homemade meal — for example calcium carbonate, wheat germ oil, zink, copper and other ingredients used to fill nutrient gaps in a specific recipe. **How it works:** There is no single "X grams per kg" answer, because the right amount is whatever is needed to top up the meal to the FEDIAF target. The supplement is part of the recipe, not added on top of it. **What you see instead of a number:** - An amber notice on the product page: *"Dosing depends on your recipe."* - A "Learn more" link to this article on the product page. - On the printed label attached to the physical product you receive from us: *"Dosing depends on recipe — see your recipe."* - A QR code on the printed label that will direct you to the article you are reading now. To get the right amount, open the recipe that calls for the supplement. The recipe itself specifies how much to use for the batch size you cook.
