Three French Bulldogs, Three Health Problems – and How the Right Diet Changed Everything

The story of Trine and her three French Bulldogs, who struggled with chronic vomiting, IBD, skin infections, and itching, and how homemade diets ultimately transformed their health.

This is the story of Trine and her dogs

To make the story easier to read, headings have been added for context, but the story itself is told in Trine’s own words.

Three French Bulldogs

I have four French Bulldogs, and three of them have developed significant health challenges over the years. Vomiting, skin infections, and chronic itching meant that for a long time we tried both medications and veterinary diets without finding a lasting solution. This is the story of Selma, Molly, and Nola, and how individually homecooked diets ultimately transformed their health.

Selma – Vomiting and Later a Diagnosis of IBD

In the spring of 2024, Selma suddenly began struggling with vomiting. She would vomit several hours after eating, which was naturally both concerning and distressing. Our local veterinarian performed an abdominal ultrasound, but nothing abnormal was found. She was prescribed several medications before eventually being placed on Losec Mups, which helped somewhat. The problem was that this medication cannot be used for extended periods. Because of this, we were referred to Fredrikstad Dyrehospital for a gastroscopy. The examination showed that Selma had a mild form of IBD (inflammatory bowel disease). We were advised to start the veterinary diet Hill’s Z/D, but it didn’t work optimally. Over the following months we tried several other prescription diets from the veterinarian without achieving stable improvement. Eventually she was also prescribed Wegastro, which helped to some extent, but she was never fully well.

Molly – Painful Furunculosis

In the autumn of 2024, Molly developed furunculosis, a painful skin condition that can be difficult to treat. We tried several treatment options without finding anything that truly helped. Among other things, she was prescribed Atopica, but it caused severe gastrointestinal problems, and we had to stop the treatment. This is a known side effect of the medication, and we were told that the stomach often stabilizes after some time. Unfortunately, this did not happen in Molly’s case, and we were still left without a real solution.

Nola – Chronic Itching and Yeast in Her Paws

Nola had struggled for many years with irritated skin and yeast infections in her paws. She would lick her paws constantly during certain periods, and the problem was especially severe during the winter months. From a young age she was given several cortisone treatments, which helped temporarily but the symptoms always returned. The last cortisone treatment had no effect at all. In the spring of 2023 she therefore started monthly Cytopoint injections. This worked well for a while, but over time I felt that the effect gradually decreased.

The Turning Point

Around this time I came across Evighetshunden on Instagram. What caught my attention was the strong scientific and professional approach to canine nutrition. When new client spots opened, I quickly signed up my first two dogs. Both of them received individually tailored, homecooked diets.

The Results

**Selma – A Stable Stomach and No More Medication** For Selma, the improvement came almost immediately after starting her new diet. After 12 weeks, we were also able to stop Wegastro completely, and her stomach remained stable until she sadly had to be euthanized in the autumn of 2025 due to a brain hemorrhage. Her digestive issues had resolved. **Molly – The Furuncles Disappeared** Molly also experienced a clear improvement. After about six weeks on her tailored diet, the furuncles disappeared—and they have not returned since. She later had slightly elevated liver values and mild pancreatic markers. Ayla adjusted her diet a couple of times, and today all her blood values are completely normal. **Nola – An Elimination Diet Provided the Answers** For Nola, we started an elimination diet, where different protein sources were tested systematically. This made it very clear which proteins she reacts to—and which ones she tolerates well. When she eats proteins she tolerates, she has: - no irritated paws - no yeast infections - no constant licking The difference is simply enormous.

My Youngest Dog Will Also Eat This Way

My youngest dog, Coco, who is almost one year old, will also transition to a homemade diet. She currently has no health problems, but after seeing the results with my three older dogs, this is the way I want to feed her.

What Truly Made the Difference

For my three oldest dogs, this nutritional approach has been absolutely decisive. I honestly believe that if I had not followed Ayla’s dietary plans, my dogs would still be dependent on regular medication today. I simply cannot praise her enough for the knowledge, dedication, and work she puts into helping dogs and their owners. ***All the best, Trine, Selma, Molly, Nola and Coco***
